1 apple
2 cups nonfat or 1% milk or water
1 cup quick cooking or old fashioned rolled oats
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon brown sugar
⅛ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)


1 manzana
2 tazas de leche 1% o sin grasa o agua
1 taza de avena instantánea o tradicional
⅛ cucharadita de sal
⅛ cucharadita de lataela molida
1 cucharada de azúcar morena
⅛ cucharadita de nuez moscada molida (opcional)


  1. Rinse the apple, remove the core and cut into small chunks (about 1 ½ cups).
  2. Bring the water or milk to a boil in a saucepan.
  3. Add the oatmeal, salt and apple chunks. Cook over medium heat for 1 minute if using quick cooking oats or 7 to 10 minutes if using old fashioned rolled oats. Stir a couple times while cooking.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in cinnamon, brown sugar and nutmeg, if desired.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.


  1. Lave la manzana, quite el corazón y córtela en trozos pequeños (aproximadamente 1 ½ tazas).
  2. Hierva el agua o la leche en una olla.
  3. Agregue la avena, la sal y los trozos de manzana. Cocine sobre fuego medio por 1 minuto si está usando avena instantánea o 7-10 minutos si está usando avena tradicional. Revuelva un par de veces mentras cocina la avena.
  4. Retire del fuego. Agregue la canela, el azúcar morena y nuez moscada si desea.
  5. Refrigere lo que sobra durante las siguientes 2 horas.


  • To increase the apple flavor, use apple juice for all or part of the water. Mixing apple juice with milk may cause milk to curdle.
  • Add bite-size dried fruit pieces like raisins, apricots or cranberries in step 3, or sprinkle on top when serving.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts on top when serving.

  • Para aumentar el sabor a manzana, reemplace toda o parte del agua con jugo de manzana.  Si el jugo de manzana se mezcla con la leche, es posible que la leche se cuaje.
